Business Meetings

Our monthly business meeting is held on the first Tuesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lubbock Women’s Club. During this time, members gather to connect, hear updates from the board of directors, and discuss chapter initiatives and upcoming events. All members are encouraged to attend and be part of the conversation.

As of January 1, 2026, plated lunches are available for $21 for members and $26 for nonmembers or for those paying by credit or debit card.

Program Meetings
Our program meetings are open to both members and those interested in learning more about AWC Lubbock. These gatherings feature engaging speakers who contribute to the personal and professional growth of attendees. Past topics have included leadership development, storytelling, guidance on freelancing, and crisis communications.

As of January 1, 2026, plated lunches are available for $21 for members and $26 for nonmembers or for those paying by credit or debit card.

Membership Mixers
We typically host two membership mixers per year. The mixers are held during the work week after business hours. All members and prospective members are invited for a few hours of networking with new communications professionals and catching up with friends. This is a fun way to connect with others!

Planning Retreat
Toward the end of each summer, AWC members gather for a planning retreat to discuss the direction and priorities for the year ahead. Members are invited to share ideas, offer feedback, and help shape the future of the chapter.

This collaborative conversation helps equip our incoming board to lead effectively while keeping the chapter innovative, connected, and responsive to our members’ needs.

Board of Directors
Each year, AWC members serve on the Board of Directors, helping guide the mission and activities of the chapter. The slate of board members is coordinated by the President-Elect each May.

If you are interested in serving on the 2026 to 2027 Board of Directors, please contact President-Elect Katelynn Horton. Serving on the board is a meaningful way to grow your leadership skills while supporting the AWC community.

One day, I looked around and realized I was literally the only woman in the room amongst a sea of men. It hit me, I needed some woman power, and it wasn’t happening in that space. I needed women who had capitalized on their strengths and supported one another. AWC is that representation I needed then, and continue to need! They inspire, educate, share, encourage, and believe in me. And me in them!

I joined the Lubbock Professional Chapter as soon as I graduated. I attended something like 11 regional conferences before regions were discontinued. By then, I’d made many good friends through the chapter, many of them still members, so I’ve never left.

Being around people who “speak my language” is crucial to not only my own empowerment, but also to my creativity and, thereby, my success. And to top it off, it was quickly evident to me that the ladies of AWC ran in the who’s who circles of the city so I knew my joining and becoming an active member was going to propel my networking game and give me an added local advantage.

AWC has given me a space to connect with amazing, hard-working women who have excelled in their lives and careers. It is a blessing to be surrounded by so many women that I admire.

AWC is my favorite group that I participate in. There is such a wide variety of ladies with vast experience in communications. I have grown and gained priceless wisdom under their mentorship.

AWC is such a supportive community, full of incredible women who are generous with their time, knowledge, and encouragement. Being part of this group has reminded me to stay curious and has helped me grow not just in my career but as a person.
