We are proud to support the next generation of communications professionals by awarding scholarships to outstanding students who are members of the Texas Tech AWC Student Chapter.

Each year, these scholarships are presented during our annual Celebrity Luncheon, a signature event that celebrates leaders in our community while helping fund educational opportunities for future communicators.

Through the generosity of our members, donors, and event supporters, AWC Lubbock continues to invest in students who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and a passion for the communications field.

Bea Zeeck Scholarship

The AWC Bea Zeeck Scholarship was established in 1993 to honor Bea Zeeck’s lasting contributions to Texas Tech University and the Association for Women in Communications. Bea served with Texas Tech News and Publications for 20 years, including seven years as director, and was deeply committed to supporting students and the communications profession. She also served as president of the AWC Lubbock chapter and as a student chapter advisor, mentoring many future communications leaders.

The scholarship is endowed by AWC Lubbock and funded in part through proceeds from the chapter’s annual Celebrity Luncheon, ensuring that Bea’s legacy of mentorship and service continues to impact students for years to come. Bea passed away in 2010, but her influence on the communications community and the students she supported continues through this scholarship.

Mary Faye Bonds Green Scholarship

The Mary Faye Bonds Green AWC Endowed Scholarship was established in May 2007 by Otice Green in honor of his wife, Mary Faye, on her birthday. His generous gift of $10,000 to the Texas Tech College of Mass Communications created the foundation for this endowed scholarship.

Mary Faye was a founding member of AWC Lubbock and served as the chapter’s first president from 1956 to 1957. Her leadership helped establish the organization’s strong tradition of supporting women in communications. In recognition of her contributions, Mary Faye was awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership in AWC in 2007. This scholarship continues to celebrate her legacy by supporting students pursuing careers in communications.
